What is an Ocular EV charger?

An Ocular EV charger is a wall-mounted charger for homes and businesses. The Ocular IQ Home Solar is a home charger that can charge your car from spare solar. The Ocular IQ Wallbox is the one we fit in apartment car parks and businesses, where Exploren charging software handles access cards and billing.

Ocular is the charger on most of our jobs. We've worked closely with Ocular for years and know the product inside out.

That means we can get spare parts quickly and help directly if anything goes wrong.

How We Install Your Ocular Charger

The same six steps as every install we do. We look at your switchboard, the charger spot and any solar before we quote, so the quote matches the job.

  1. Enquiry

    You reach out by phone, form, or referral; we'll have a quick chat to understand what you need and how we can help.

  2. Project Details

    We'll ask for a few photos and details:

    • Your switchboard
    • The proposed installation location
    • Any solar or battery setup
    • EV make/model

    This helps us give you accurate advice from the start.

  3. Consultation

    We'll talk through your needs, including:

    • Current EV
    • Plans to add more EVs
    • Solar integration
    • Load capacity of your home

    We'll also explain what options make sense, and which don't.

  4. Quote

    You'll get a proper quote, not just a price. It includes:

    • Product recommendation (with options)
    • Full install scope
    • Any upgrades needed (e.g. switchboard work)
    • Optional extras like app control or solar syncing

  5. Installation

    The installation day usually takes half to three-quarters of a day. We'll:

    • Turn up on time
    • Work cleanly and safely
    • Commission and test the charger
    • Show you how to use it

  6. Ongoing Support

    We show you the app (if applicable), check that everything's working, and ensure you're comfortable. And if something goes wrong later? You've got a local number to call us.

The Ocular Chargers We Install

Most of our Ocular jobs use one of two chargers. The IQ Home Solar suits homes, and the IQ Wallbox suits shared and business car parks.

Single-phase homes have one supply line from the street, and three-phase homes have three. A tethered charger has its own cable fixed to it, and a socket charger uses the cable that came with your car.

Which Ocular Charger Suits You?

We pick the model from four things: your power supply, your solar, who will use the charger and who pays for the power.

Your car sets a limit too. At Hamilton Hill, a 22kW charger charges the owner's BYD at about 11kW, because that is the most the car accepts.

    At Hamilton Hill, the owner wanted solar charging but had no need for load control, which slows the car's charging when the house needs the power. The IQ Home Solar gave them solar charging without paying hundreds more for that feature.

  • No Solar Yet

    A smart charger like the Ocular LTE Plus lets you schedule off-peak charging and check your usage. You control it all from an app.

  • Apartments and Strata

    In a shared car park, the IQ Wallbox only starts when the resident taps their own card. Exploren software records each charge, bills the resident and pays the strata.

  • Businesses and Fleets

    The IQ Wallbox 22kW runs on three-phase power. It suits a quick turnaround, such as workshop cars, new deliveries and display stock.

Is Ocular a good EV charger?

We think so, and it's the charger we fit most often. We back it because Ocular answers when something needs fixing, and parts are close by in WA.

How much does it cost to install an Ocular charger?

Our home packages start from $1,669 + GST for a 7kW charger on single-phase power at a Perth metro home. The Solar Charging package starts from $2,589 + GST. Any extra work, such as a switchboard upgrade, is listed in your quote.

Does the Ocular IQ Home Solar work on three-phase power?

Yes, there's a 22kW three-phase version. We fitted one at a three-phase home in Hamilton Hill. The owner's BYD now charges at about 11kW, about seven times faster than the 1.6kW it got from a standard power point.
