What Perth's Grid and Power Prices Mean for Your Charger
Perth homes are on Western Power's network. We plan every Perth install around its rules and Synergy's EV plan prices.

A standard Western Power connection is 63 amps on single-phase power, where one supply line comes into the home, or 32 amps on each line of three-phase power, where three come in. We check your home's total power use fits before the charger goes in.
7kW on single-phase
Western Power permits a 7kW single-phase charger on a standard connection, on single-phase or three-phase homes. It is the charger in our Basic Home Charger Install.
Main switch upgrade
Western Power requires the main switch, the one that turns off power to the whole house, to be a circuit breaker, a switch that trips off by itself if too much power flows. We check yours at the free assessment and include any change in your quote.
If your home needs more power
If your home can't take the extra load, we either apply to Western Power for a bigger connection or fit a smart charger that limits what it draws from the grid.
Charge in the middle of the day
Synergy's EV Add On plan charges 8.85c per kWh from 9am to 3pm, against 55.33c from 3pm to 9pm. Midday Saver has the same 8.85c rate from 9am to 3pm.

Do I need Western Power's approval to install an EV charger in Perth?
Western Power permits a 7kW single-phase charger on a standard connection, as long as your home's total load stays within the connection limits. If it doesn't, we apply to Western Power for a bigger connection, or fit a smart charger that limits what it draws.
What is the cheapest time to charge an EV in Perth?
On Synergy's EV Add On and Midday Saver plans, 9am to 3pm is the cheapest time at 8.85c per kWh (rates from 1 July 2026). The EV Add On plan also has an overnight rate of 19.92c from 11pm to 6am. Peak, from 3pm to 9pm, is 55.33c.
What do I need for Synergy's EV Add On plan?
Synergy confirms whether your meter suits the plan, and any cost to change it, when you apply. We set the charger's timer to match whichever plan you choose.
