Fronius Wattpilot Installation in Perth

ChargingWA supplies and installs Fronius Wattpilot chargers at Perth homes and businesses, including ones you've already bought. A Wattpilot can charge your car from spare solar, the power your panels make that your home isn't using. Fronius makes solar inverters too.

Fronius Wattpilot Home EV charger with its Type 2 socket
  • 7.36kW single-phase or 22kW three-phase, for one or three supply lines
  • Starts charging from 1.38kW of spare solar
  • Switches between one and three phases on its own

Who Makes the Wattpilot?

Fronius was founded on 20 June 1945 by Günter Fronius in Pettenbach, Austria, as a repair shop. The company is still based there and has more than 6,500 staff.

Fronius has made solar inverters since the early 1990s, and the Wattpilot is its EV charger.

  1. Solar Inverter and Charger From One Maker

If your solar runs through a Fronius inverter, the box that turns your panels' power into household power, your charger and inverter come from the same maker.

  2. It Switches Phases on Its Own

On a three-phase home, the Wattpilot drops to one phase when solar is low and steps up to three when there's plenty, so it can start charging from as little as 1.38kW.

  3. Eco or Next Trip

Eco mode puts solar first. Next Trip mode makes sure the car has the charge you need by the time you leave.

A Wattpilot for Your Home or Business

What is a Fronius Wattpilot?

The Fronius Wattpilot is an EV charger from the Austrian solar inverter maker Fronius. It charges at up to 22kW on three phases or 7.36kW on one, and it can charge your car from spare solar. You choose its Eco or Next Trip mode in the Solar.wattpilot app.

Plenty of Perth homes already have a Fronius solar inverter. Christine Warren is one of our customers with one. She chose a Zappi charger, and she charges her EV from her spare solar instead of sending it back to the grid.

The Wattpilot Flex has a card reader that keeps a separate profile for each driver, which suits a shared driveway or a small business car park.

  • We Supply and Install

We supply the Wattpilot that suits your home or business and install it. The charger carries its manufacturer's warranty, and our installation comes with a 2-year workmanship warranty.

  • Already Bought a Wattpilot?

We'll install it safely and to standard. Send us photos of your switchboard, the box your circuit breakers sit in, your inverter and where you want the charger.

The Fronius Wattpilot Chargers We Install

The Wattpilot Home has a socket, so you use the cable that came with your car. The Wattpilot Flex has its own 6m cable and a card reader for different drivers.

A socket charger uses the cable that came with your car, and a tethered charger has its own cable fixed to it. Single-phase homes have one supply line from the street, and three-phase homes have three.

Perth Solar Homes We've Installed Chargers At

Christine Warren has a Fronius solar inverter and chose a Zappi charger, which we set up to run on her spare solar. Our Hamilton Hill and Wembley Downs jobs show how we plan a solar charger around the switchboard and the house.

More Solar Charger Installs

Both jobs used the Ocular IQ Home Solar. In Hamilton Hill we rearranged the switchboard to make room for the charger's circuit. In Wembley Downs we mounted the charger on the house wall with a 10-metre cable, so nobody had to cut through the concrete to the carport.

  • I did a lot of research before choosing an EV charger installer in Perth, and Charging WA stood out from the rest. I reached out over the weekend for a quote and was genuinely impressed by the prompt response. Levi answered all of my questions thoroughly and even provided an estimated installation timeframe, which gave me confidence from the very beginning. From the initial quote through to installation, the entire process was seamless. The installers were friendly, professional, and incredibly tidy. Once the installation was complete, they took the time to walk me through the setup of both the charger and the app, making sure I was comfortable using everything before they left. I chose the Zappi charger because it integrates perfectly with my Fronius solar inverter. It’s fantastic being able to charge my EV using excess solar energy instead of exporting it back to the grid. If you’re looking for a reliable, knowledgeable, and professional EV charger installer in Perth, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Charging WA. The whole experience exceeded my expectations.

How a Wattpilot Works With Fronius Solar

A Wattpilot uses the solar left over after your home has had its share. How much reaches the car depends on your system size, how much is spare and whether your home is single-phase or three-phase.

Most home solar systems are 3 to 6kW and were sized for the house before you had a car. Spare solar helps most when the car is parked at home in the middle of the day.

  • Extra Parts for Solar

Fronius says charging from spare solar needs extra parts in your system. We check what yours has and list any parts you need in your quote.

  • One or Three Phases

On a three-phase home the Wattpilot switches to one phase when solar is low, so it can start charging at 1.38kW instead of waiting for more.

  • At Your Business

Fronius also makes Tauro inverters for large commercial solar systems. The Wattpilot Flex keeps a profile for each driver, which suits a business car park.

  • Next Trip Mode

Tell the app when you're leaving and how far you're going. The Wattpilot makes sure the car has that charge by then.

Fronius Wattpilot FAQs

More on Solar and Business Charging

How much does a Fronius EV charger cost to install in Perth?

Every Wattpilot install is quoted, because your switchboard, your supply, your inverter and the cable run all change the price. Send us photos of the switchboard, the inverter and the charger spot, and we'll price it properly.

Do I need a Fronius inverter to use a Wattpilot?

No. A Wattpilot charges any EV with a Type 2 plug, the charging plug most EVs in Australia use. To charge from spare solar, Fronius says your system needs extra parts, and we list any you need in your quote.

What's the difference between the Wattpilot Home and the Wattpilot Flex?

The Wattpilot Home has a Type 2 socket, so you use your car's own cable. The Wattpilot Flex Home has its own 6m cable fixed to it, and a card reader that keeps a separate profile for each driver.

Is the Fronius Wattpilot bidirectional?

Fronius says the Wattpilot Flex has the hardware for two-way charging, where the car can send power back to your home or the grid. Your car must also support it, and the network's rules must allow power to flow back. Ask us before you plan around it.

Can you install a Wattpilot I've already bought?

Yes. We fit chargers our customers have bought themselves. We check your switchboard first, then set the Wattpilot up to suit your solar.

Ready for Your Wattpilot?

Send us a few photos of your switchboard, your inverter and where you park, and we'll match the right Wattpilot to your solar.
