Depot Charging for Perth Fleets

What Is Depot Charging?

Depot charging means your fleet vehicles charge at your own site while they're parked overnight or between shifts. Most use AC chargers, the same type as a home charger, which add about 300km of range in 4 to 10 hours. Load management shares your site's power between them, and charging software reports what each vehicle uses.

Electrician & Director

Steve Randall leads our fleet work, and he has been a licensed electrician for 37 years. His recent jobs include St John Ambulance stations, councils and state government departments, and chargers for Toll Logistics' fleet of 25 new electric trucks.

Most companies just throw in some chargers and hope for the best. We put together a full proposal, not just a basic price.

How We Install Fleet Charging

Six steps, from the first call to a depot your drivers can plug into. The site visit is where we work out how many chargers you need and how fast they have to be.

  1. Initial Enquiry

You can reach out to us by phone, referral, or form, and we'll set up a quick call to understand your site, goals, and charging needs. Whether you're a fleet operator, developer, landlord, or council, we'll point you in the right direction from day one.

  2. Site Visit

We assess the site with a commercial lens covering:

    • Power availability
    • Charger types and number
    • Use case (fleet, public, private access)
    • Idle time vs. charging speed
    • Infrastructure requirements (bollards, bay painting, signage, etc.)
  3. Solution Design

We develop one or two options to suit your site, based on:

    • Your goals
    • Budget
    • Scalability
    • Installation timelines
  4. Proposal

You receive a full, itemised proposal including:

    • Installation timeline
    • Charger and software options
    • Ongoing software or subscription costs
    • Warranty details
    • Optional SLA tiers (Bronze / Silver / Gold)
  5. Installation

Once approved, we lock in a schedule.

  6. Commissioning & Handover

We don't just install; we fully commission the system. That means:

    • Testing the charger
    • Running through the software
    • Providing documentation
    • Training your team
  7. Your fleet, charging on your own site

Why Choose ChargingWA for Fleet Charging?

We design, install and support the whole depot: the chargers, the power and the software. One local team answers for all of it.

  • Fleet Experience

Steve has installed chargers at depots, workshops and for vehicle fleets, from AC wall chargers to large DC truck chargers.

  • In-House at Midway Ford

At Midway Ford our own team handled the whole job, with no subcontractors. Every customer gets a Certificate of Electrical Safety when the job is done.

  • Chargers and Software That Talk

We use Ocular chargers with Exploren software, which work together. If something goes wrong, we fix it ourselves.

  • Support After Install

Your proposal sets out the warranty, and our AC carpark package comes with 2 years on hardware and installation. You can add a Bronze, Silver or Gold service agreement, which sets how fast we respond.

What We Install at a Depot

We match the charger to how long your vehicles sit still and how much power your site has.

  • AC chargers7 to 22kW

Wall or post chargers that charge at the same speed as a home charger. They suit vehicles parked overnight or between shifts.

  • Three-phase AC chargers22kW

A 22kW charger runs on three-phase power, a stronger supply with three lines instead of one. Midway Ford's three Ocular IQ Wallbox chargers are this type.

  • DC fast chargers50kW and up

Much quicker, and they need a much bigger power supply. We've installed them at St John Ambulance depots.

Every fleet setup includes charging software to manage access, usage and billing. We supply it, set it up and support it locally.

  • Ideal for fleets, carparks, hospitality & retail
  • 2-year warranty (hardware & installation)
  • Works with OCPP, the open standard that connects chargers to billing and monitoring software
  • Custom signage & branding options available

Fleet and Depot Charging We've Installed

  • Ocular charger on a pillar charging a Ford Mustang Mach-E at Midway Ford in Midland

    Midway Ford, Midland

    Workshop, delivery bays and showroom

Ford required Midway Ford to charge its e-Transit vans and Mustang Mach-Es. We fitted three 22kW chargers, and the workshop and delivery bay chargers have 10-metre cables to reach several bays.

The workshop charger sits 35 to 40 metres from the switchboard, the main electrical panel. Sold cars top up overnight, ready for handover, and the job came in over $10,000 under a $27,000 quote.

A staff member drives an EV for work. We fitted a simple charger at the office. For home, we supplied a portable charger that logs every session, so Step4 can repay the exact power used.

If another staff member takes over the car, the charger goes with it.

We've also installed chargers at St John Ambulance stations, and for Toll Logistics' fleet of 25 new electric trucks.

Overnight or Fast Charging?

Most fleets charge while vehicles are parked anyway: overnight, between shifts or while they sit on site. That usually avoids the need for fast charging.

It's best to align the charger speed with the available power you have on site, so you maximise the charger's output without worrying about a power upgrade.
Steve Randall, ChargingWA

Power upgrades through Western Power can be slow and expensive, sometimes adding $10,000 or more and months to a project. Matching the charger to the power you already have is usually the smarter choice.

Sizing Your Depot

On the site visit, we look at:

  • How much power your site has
  • How many chargers you need, and what type
  • Who uses them: your fleet, staff or the public
  • How long vehicles sit still, against how fast they need to charge
  • Bollards, bay painting and signage

Tell us how far your vehicles drive each day and where they park overnight. A metro tradie's ute may cover less than 150km a day, and overnight charging puts that back easily.

We size the depot for the fleet you expect to run in a few years. Starting with too few chargers leads to queues and an early, costly expansion.

Load Management and Reporting

Fleet charging often means many vehicles charging in a short window. Load management watches your site's power use and shares the spare power between chargers, so the depot stays inside its limit.

It can delay or avoid a switchboard or supply upgrade. Ours works across charger brands, so you can add chargers as the fleet grows.

See What Each Vehicle Uses

The software logs every session: start and finish times, energy used, and which driver or vehicle it was.

Depending on the software, a fleet setup can also include:

  • RFID cards or app access, so only your vehicles use the chargers
  • Priority access for fleet vehicles
  • Charging scheduled around shifts or off-peak power
  • Usage and charging history for each vehicle
  • Energy cost tracking
  • Maintenance alerts that flag a fault early

For staff who take a work vehicle home, a portable charger with a SIM card logs home sessions too, so you can repay them exactly.

Fleet EV Charging FAQs

More on Fleet Charging

What is the best charger for a fleet depot?

It depends on how long your vehicles sit still. For overnight or between-shift charging, AC chargers of 7 to 22kW are usually enough. A quick turnaround may need a DC fast charger, if your site has the power.

Do fleet chargers need software?

Yes. Fleets need software to manage access, usage and billing. We supply it, set it up and support it locally.

Can we track what each vehicle or driver uses?

Yes. Each driver or vehicle gets its own RFID card, and the software logs start and finish times and energy used. You can run reports from it to check costs or repay staff.

Can staff charge a work vehicle at home?

Yes. For Step4 in Canning Vale, we supplied a portable charger with a SIM card. It logs every home session, so the business repays the exact power used.

How long does a fleet charging installation take?

Most jobs take from 2 weeks to 3 or 4 months, with larger DC chargers at the longer end. AC and low-powered DC chargers are generally in stock, and your proposal gives the exact timeline.

Is fleet charging tax-deductible?

If it's for business or fleet use, yes, in most cases. Check with your accountant, and we'll give you the documents and cost breakdowns they need. See EV charger rebates and grants for funding that may help.
