Steve Randall – EV charger installation specialist at Charging WA

Steve Randall

EV Charger Installation Specialist

37 years of electrical experience with 3000+ EV charger installs across WA.

Steve Randall is one of Perth’s most experienced EV charger installers, with 37 years as a licensed electrician and more than 10 years specialising in EV charging across Western Australia. He was installing and commissioning EV chargers for homes, fleets, and commercial sites well before they became widely adopted.

Over his career, Steve has completed an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 EV charger installations, placing him among the most experienced EV charging specialists in the state. He is the owner of Charging WA, where he leads a team of six technicians focused solely on EV charging projects.

The team completes 10 to 15 installations each week, servicing the Perth metro area as well as regional locations from Geraldton through to Bunbury and Busselton.

A Background Built on Real Electrical Expertise

Steve has handled every type of electrical environment, which gives him a strong foundation for the highly technical nature of EV charging.

  • Residential
  • Commercial
  • Industrial
  • Government

Twelve years ago, as EVs first emerged in WA, Steve recognised that this wasn’t “just another electrical job.” He completed specialised EV charger installation courses and shifted his focus towards the technology that would shape the future of transport. That early adoption now gives him deep, practical knowledge of every major charger brand, installation method, and smart-charging system used in Australia.

Why EV Chargers Need a Specialist

Steve regularly explains that EV charger installation is far more specialised than most homeowners realise. Smart chargers must be configured correctly with CT clamps, load balancing, solar integrations, and phase requirements. When those settings aren’t done properly, chargers fail; or worse, overload the home.

Steve’s team is often called out to fix chargers installed by general electricians who didn’t commission the system correctly.

As Steve puts it:

“Anyone can bolt a charger to the wall. The real work is testing and configuring it so it works with the house, the solar, and the mains.”

This commissioning process is a major point of difference for Steve’s installs.

Experience Across Every Sector

Steve has recently completed EV charger installations for:

  • Residential homes across Perth
  • St John Ambulance stations
  • Toll Logistics, including chargers for their fleet of 25 new EV trucks
  • Local councils and state government departments
  • Commercial depots, workshops, and vehicle fleets

From basic home AC chargers to large DC truck chargers, Steve has worked across every charger type and power rating available in Australia.

Fit-for-Purpose Solutions

One of Steve’s key strengths is ensuring customers receive the right charger for their home or site. Every installation requires assessing:

  • The home’s existing electrical load
  • Solar capacity
  • Single-phase vs three-phase supply
  • Future EVs or expansion plans

Choosing the wrong charger often results in tripped power or expensive upgrades later. Steve makes sure every system is matched correctly so customers get reliable, safe charging from day one.

“Every house is different. We tailor the charger to the home so you’re not overloading the system.”

This customer-first approach is a major reason Steve is trusted across so many industries and repeat clients.
